The MA Generative Design and AI at the University of Europe for Applied Sciences (UE) is a specialized Master’s program for those who want to work at the intersection of creativity, design, and artificial intelligence.
This is not a traditional design degree. The focus is on how generative AI and computational tools are used to create, test, and scale ideas — from concept development to real-world applications across industries.
The program is practice-led and built around the tools, workflows, and thinking already shaping creative and digital industries today.

Special enrolment advantages are currently available for students completing enrolment between May–July 2026, including a tuition discount of at least €2,000 for qualified candidates. For full details and current conditions, please refer to the main UE page under “Advantages for PRODIREKT students.”
Key facts
- Degree: Master of Arts (MA)
- Duration options:
- 2 semesters – 1 year (60 ECTS)
- 3 semesters – 1.5 years (90 ECTS)
- 4 semesters – 2 years (120 ECTS)
- Language of teaching: English
- Intakes: March and September
- Classes are typically scheduled between Wednesdays and Saturdays
- Location: UE Innovation Hub (Potsdam, near Berlin)
This is a Master program with flexible entry tracks. For a clear explanation of how the 60 / 90 / 120 ECTS options work, and which Master duration usually fits different Bachelor backgrounds, please see here the Master programs section on our main UE page.
In simple terms, the right study track depends on the academic workload you already completed in your previous degree.udents who completed a BA or BSc degree at UE typically graduate with 180 ECTS, so they would normally continue into the 120 ECTS Master program, which lasts 4 semesters (2 years).
The MA Generative Design & AI program holds official German accreditation, confirming that it meets nationally recognized academic standards; you can view the official accreditation entry here.

Why this program
Generative AI is already transforming how companies create products, content, and digital experiences. This program is designed for those who want to move beyond using tools — and understand how to apply them strategically and creatively.
The emphasis is on combining design thinking with AI-driven processes. You learn how to generate ideas, test variations, and develop solutions using platforms such as Midjourney, DALL·E, and other generative systems, while also understanding the logic behind them.
We should point out that this is one of the first programs of its kind globally, focusing specifically on the combination of generative AI and design practice.
What you will study
The curriculum combines creative design, coding, and AI applications. Key areas include:
- generative AI tools and workflows
- creative coding and computational design
- data visualization and algorithmic thinking
- augmented and immersive environments
- digital storytelling and visual narratives
The approach is strongly project-based, meaning ideas are developed through experimentation, iteration, and real outputs rather than only theoretical work.
Spotlight: Generative AI in practice
A central part of the program is working directly with generative AI platforms and integrating them into design workflows.
Students explore how AI can support concept ideation, accelerate creative processes, and enable entirely new forms of digital production. The focus is not only on using tools, but on understanding when and how to apply them effectively.
This includes work on real-world challenges such as digital content creation, brand storytelling, and future-oriented product concepts.
Practical learning and structure
The program is structured around hands-on modules and projects.
According to the brochure and the official UE presentation, modules include areas such as generative AI, computation design, augmented realities, creative coding, algorithmic art, speculative futures, and visual narratives.
In later stages, you complete a capstone project and Master’s thesis, which can be aligned with industry projects, research topics, or your own professional direction.
Location and study environment
The program is delivered at the UE Innovation Hub in Potsdam, just outside Berlin.
This is not a traditional campus setting. The Innovation Hub is located on the SAP “Think Campus,” next to major innovation centers such as SAP Innovation Center and the Volkswagen Group Future Center.
Potsdam is around 25 minutes from central Berlin and is part of one of Germany’s key digital and innovation clusters, bringing together technology companies, startups, and research institutions.
This environment is particularly relevant for a program focused on AI, design, and future technologies.

Career outcomes
This program prepares graduates for roles where creativity and technology meet.
Rather than a single job path, it opens multiple directions depending on your background and focus.
Typical roles include:
- generative AI designer
- digital product and experience designer
- creative technologist
- AI-driven content and media specialist
- innovation or design consultant
Graduates can work across industries such as media, advertising, fashion, digital products, health and wellness, retail, and emerging tech sectors.
The key advantage is the ability to combine creative thinking with technical tools — a combination that is still relatively rare and increasingly in demand.
✅ In salary terms, early-career outcomes will vary by role, city, and prior experience, but this type of hybrid profile is often positioned in the roughly €50,000 to €65,000 range in Germany once entering relevant creative-tech or AI-related roles.
Admission requirements (summary)
- completed application form
- Bachelor degree and transcripts
- English language certificate (B2 level)
- CV
- motivation letter (minimum 500 words)
- copy of passport
- portfolio (up to 10 examples of your strongest creative work)
The portfolio is an important part of the application. It should show the kind of creative work you do best — for example projects in UI/UX, communication or graphic design, product design, digital design, visual experiments, or other relevant creative and technology-related work. Applicants from different backgrounds are welcome, especially those with a digital design profile.
Coding skills are an advantage for this program, but they are not required for admission.
We will work with you to prepare your application, review your documents, and help you present your portfolio and motivation letter in the strongest possible way. The motivation letter is particularly important, as it helps explain your direction and fit for this type of Master program.
