Fighting fake news

A while ago, I came across an interesting article published in The Guardian, entitled: Could language be the key to detecting fake news?  The proliferation of deliberately misleading speeches, articles, websites and social media posts has led to many researchers trying to work out what the linguistic characteristics of fake news are. The article mentions that several researchers found that fake news may have in common the language they use – fake news articles use more words related to sex, death and anxiety, and overly emotional language is often deployed. The researchers noted that propaganda tends to use abstract generalities like “truth” and “freedom.”

But how accurate can artificial intelligence (AI) be in telling fact from fake? READ MORE

Over 10,000 students have placed their education and professional development safely in our hands, so why not do the same for your career?

This year has been unprecedented and the Covid-19 situation has brought new challenges for schools with an increased need for online language learning. Students now face a myriad of online learning programs, many of them with questionable pricing and quality. During the past 25 years, we have worked hard to raise the standards of language teaching, and in the current difficult situation we continue to do so. We believe that online courses should not be simply by Zoom or Skype teaching, but rather by a true-E-learning system taught by trained teachers. Consequently, the Verbalists Language Network has invested in preparing our teachers worldwide and in the development of the advanced online English learning platform.

We now have several openings to support our global business growth:

Education Program Manager (Belgrade based) who will be responsible to the Managing Director for the academic management of the School and ensuring the teaching and online learning component of the programs are delivered to the highest standards. This role is ideal for someone who is ambitious, not afraid of challenges of a growing organization, prepared to work hard and enjoys achieving goals.

Duties:

  • Teachers recruitment and training.
  • Monitoring teachers’ performance.
  • Motivating teachers.
  • Teaching groups and/or on a one-to-one basis – online and in person.
  • Teaching specialized English courses such as those which cater to the needs of business people and executives.
  • Academic welfare of students and monitoring their progress.
  • Planning, preparing and delivering lessons to classes.
  • Using a modern and dynamic teaching approach which allows students to communicate easily using the English language.
  • Researching and devising entertaining, interesting, creative, productive lessons for students.
  • Assessing and recording student progress by setting and marking coursework and examinations.

Qualifications:

  • Native or near-native English language fluency.
  • TESOL/CELTA/TEFL certification is a big plus.
  • Experience teaching online classes with proven results.
  • Knowledge and experience using blended learning, task-based learning, and skills integration in language teaching would be a considerable advantage.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, comfort with ambiguity, and affinity for learning new tools and applications.
  • Ability to develop and adapt classroom materials to meet students’ needs.
  • Experience using computers and technology in classroom activities (online learning platforms, interactive whiteboards, etc.).
  • Social networks enthusiast.

If working on new things and business development sound exciting to you, then this may be an interesting opportunity for you.

English Teachers (Worldwide)

The advantages of small schools

Justin Irwin

With the thousands of international schools available around the world, it can be overwhelming trying to make the best decision for your child’s education. Some parents go for the glitz and glamour of the large schools with an abundance of facilities, but often forget youth need attention, and it is often difficult to get that special attention when your child is in a large class.

The importance of role models in choosing our career or life path

The power of role models and their influence on us cannot be underestimated. This is particularly true for young people. Whether they are a parent, an athlete, a musician, an actor, or someone else, young people are going to latch onto someone and their accompanying philosophy. They will be influenced by that person’s words, because at their young age they lack the experience and wisdom to know otherwise. When it comes to celebrity role models, media and educators can enhance celebrities’ positive or negative influence on teens, so do we then have the responsibility to channel and explain the messages conveyed by the famous? In search of best boarding schools, Stonar

In September, the representatives of PRODIREKT, together with a small selected group of other agents, were invited by Stonar, a leading UK boarding school, to be their guest for a couple of days and to visit their premises. Stonar laid on an exclusive coach to transport the group to the school. The guidance and care offered by schools’ representatives as soon as we boarded the bus in London signaled something very pleasantly different. Kasha, Rachel and Judy made sure that we didn’t miss anything…and that didn’t stop until we sadly parted company with them at the end of our familiarization trip. What follows is our testimonial to what we experienced and just a taste of what our students and their parents can expect to find at Stonar. READ MORE
