New changes to the UK’s travel rules make it easier for more students to travel to the UK – Verbalists Education Beyond Borders Podcast
VERBALISTS EDUCATION news – We keep you informed on your education journey!
The UK government removed 47 countries and territories from England’s red list for travel restrictions, and recognized proof of vaccination from 37 additional countries, easing entry rules for passengers. The governments of Scotland and Wales have confirmed similar measures.
The substantial reduction of the red list took effect on October 11th. This means that from that date only seven countries remain as ‘red’ – Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Haiti, Panama, Peru and Venezuela.
Major student markets including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Indonesia, Mexico, Nepal, the Philippines and Thailand have been removed from the red list.
Students who are exempt from quarantine also have reduced Covid test requirements. Before travel, they just need to book a Covid test for day two after arrival, and they need to complete the UK passenger locator form.
Students who are under the age of 18 years and are coming from vaccine-approved countries will be treated the same as vaccinated adults.
The accepted vaccines are: Pfizer, Moderna, Janssen and Oxford/AstraZeneca (including formulations such as AstraZeneca Covidshield, AstraZeneca Vaxzervia and Moderna Takeda).
Rules for students who need to quarantine
Students who are not considered ‘fully vaccinated’ under the UK government travel rules must quarantine for 10 days on arrival. These students must take a pre-departure test as well as Day 2 and Day 8 tests, and must self-isolate where they are staying for 10 days. However, the optional ‘Test to Release’ scheme can be used on Day 5.
Verbalists Language Network’s partner language schools are all able to provide appropriate homestay or student residence accommodation so that our students can follow the quarantine rules, and start their English courses online.
PRODIREKT and the Verbalists Education & Language Network welcome these changes as a step in the right direction for the UK education industry. We also hope that more national vaccination programs will be recognized by the UK Government in the near future.
