Canada to reopen borders to all international students starting October 20

The Canadian Immigration announced that, starting on October 20, 2020, international students on a study permit “will be allowed to enter Canada if their learning institution is included on a list of institutions that have a COVID-19 readiness plan in place that has been approved by the Canadian government. All the previously established health checks and quarantines requirements remain in place.

If you plan to come to Canada as an international student on or after October 20, 2020, your designated learning institution (DLI) must be on the list of DLIs with approved COVID-19 readiness plans before you travel to Canada. Learning institutions will need to specify “how they will provide information to international students on health and travel requirements before they arrive in Canada, help students with their quarantine plans and provide guidance or assistance in acquiring the necessities of life, such as food and medication, during their quarantine”. They will also be required to “establish protocols for the health of students in the event there are suspected or confirmed Covid-19 cases at the school”.

PRODIREKT’s education partners in Canada are leading education institutions in that country and we expect that they will be on the approved DLIs list on October 20. This welcoming change will apply to all our international students, regardless of where they are traveling from or when their study permit was approved.

We look forward to keeping you updated on study abroad developments and to accepting your applications for studying in Canada. As academic specialists, we are always here to answer your questions and help you every step of the way to make that very important decision for your future education.
