For all student visa applications submitted from September 1, applicants will be required to transfer €10,236 into a blocked account, an increase from the current requirement of €8,640.
The blocked account is the most common means for international students for demonstrating that they have sufficient credit balances to cover the costs for the duration of their planned stay in Germany.
The monthly withdrawal limit from a blocked account will be increased from the current level of €720 to €853 from September.
As StudyTravel Magazine revealed earlier this year, Germany welcomed 374,583 international students in 2018, an increase of 4.4 per cent compared with the previous year and a new record for the country.
Germany, which offers virtually free public higher education for all students regardless of nationality, surpassed a target of hosting 350,000 students by 2020 three years ahead of schedule.
